Nebelschütz is located on the western edge of the central Sorbian settlement area. The "street village with a forest-hoofed corridor" extends in a wide hollow on both sides of the Jauerbach. While stately three- and four-sided courtyards predominate to the west of the watercourse, house properties and new housing estates determine the valley floor opposite and the steep hill that follows.
1304 Petrus et (and) Sifridus de (from) Nebilschicz are mentioned. Presumably the place developed around an allodium, a free property. Experts derive the name from the Old Sorbian Nebělšici, to a personal name Neběl-š or Neběłk (not white).
On the slope, which slopes steeply to the south and west, stands the baroque church, which is surrounded by magnificent linden trees and can be seen from afar. It was built between 1740 and 1743 with a high three-coupling tower crown. This original crowning of the tower was replaced by today's lantern in 1830. The building plan is probably influenced by the Catholic court church in Dresden, but it certainly does not go back to Gaetano Chiaveri, but to a Bohemian master, probably Zacharias Hoffmann.
Important personalities of the 420-strong village are the Sorbian patriot, publicist, poet and narrator Jan Skala (1889 to 1945), who was born in Nebelschütz, and whose name is also given to the kindergarten built in 1972 as part of a citizens' initiative, and the Sorbian painter Jan Buck.
Nebelschütz has a rich club life. For example, the Nebelschütz church choir (Cyrkwinski chór Njebjelčicy), the Domowina local group, the Nebelschütz sports community (Sportowa jednotka Njebjelčicy) or the local and cultural association (Domizniske a kulturne towarstwo Njebjelčicy) strive for active village life.
