An ecological artistic project to reconcile nature and culture [ to the concept sketch ]
Nebelschütz, called Njebjelčicy in Sorbian, is a village with about 1,200 Sorbian and German inhabitants. In the five districts of the bilingual municipality, not only traces of Sorbian language and culture are hidden. Above all, it is important to bring rural life back into harmony with the environment. When Thomas Zschornak decided to become mayor shortly after the fall of the Berlin Wall, the community underwent constant change. After about 30 years it is visible that it is possible to create local autonomy, in terms of education, art and culture but also of sustainable business and energy supply. Taking responsibility is the key to self-empowerment. For more than 15 years now, the community has been committed to sustainable development. Giving something back to the earth and making spaces rich in biodiversity contributes significantly to increasing the quality of life. As different as people can be, so is the character of each district. The active involvement of the inhabitants and the recognition of the many special features on site leads them to a self-confident approach to themselves and their, literally, precious environment. With a lot of courage to be creative, many possibilities of co-design suddenly become visible for each individual. The community lives out of itself. Through the guiding principles "cordial, ecological, creative, Sorbian" the projects lead to longevity, or as it is also called in Nebelschütz with pleasure "grandchild suitability". Let the history of the Himmelsort lead you into a fruitful future.
