The Heldhaus, with its typical half-timbering and its location on the main road, is a characteristic feature of Nebelschütz.
The name comes from the former owners Kubitz / Held, who bought the farmstead in 1908 and then passed it on. The Kubitz family became sadly famous after the Second World War. The four sons Paul, Johann, Georg and Benno were killed as front-line soldiers in Russia. Benno, the youngest, was only 23 years old.

In 1963, the buildings were inherited by their son-in-law Gotthard Held. This name passed into local usage. The municipality of Nebelschütz acquired the Heldhaus in 1997 to save it from decay.

During the renovation from April 1998 to May 1999, the ABM workers found out from the dates in the beams that the main building is well over 250 years old.

The ten ABM workers received theoretical training as construction assistants to carry out the work professionally. Nevertheless, the community of Nebelschütz did not want to do without the good cooperation with local companies and their experience.

A lot of dilapidated material had to be replaced, and the roof truss had to be completely rebuilt and covered. Particular importance was attached to the use of old material, the collection of which had already taken place in previous years for this renovation.

The reconstruction was as faithful to the original as possible, but also as comfortable as possible, in order to fulfil the purpose as a club house and hostel. The rural character of the house is reinforced by the antique furniture and the exhibits on the life and culture of the Sorbs.

The concept provides for a separation of overnight accommodation for families with many children in the main building and hostel accommodation for pupils and young people in the adjacent building.

However, the total of 28 sleeping facilities can also be used together. On the ground floor of the main building there is a club room and a common room for the guests.

The municipality of Nebelschütz received financial support for this project from the Office for Rural Reorganisation, which subsidised 80 % of the total costs.

The ceremonial inauguration and handover as a clubhouse and hostel with a comprehensive presentation of the house took place on Sunday, 9 May 1999.

Until 30.11.2020, the Heldhaus was used as a pilgrims' hostel and for overnight stays by students, travel groups, tourists and other guests. The Heldhaus was also often rented for celebrations. From 01.12.20 it is now in permanent private rental.
